Post-rock giants TORTOISE return to Australia this May - their first appearance on our shores in over five (5) years.
The return after such a long absence was sparked by an invitation from the Melbourne International Jazz Festival where TORTOISE will perform under the 'Modern Masters ' banner sharing festival time with (amongst others) Charles Lloyd, Ahmad Jamal and Claire Bowditch. The show at Melbourne's Forum Theatre, will also feature Brian Chase (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) & Seth Misterka. The brief stop-over is to be completed with a show at Sydney's Manning Bar. Sydney guests are yet to be named.
Since 1994, the multi-instrumental Chicago based five-piece have released six albums of instrumental soundscapes often referred to as Post-Rock, a genre that loosely incorporates the intensity of modern of jazz and its complex arrangements, with a contemporary underground rock-edge. Tortoises' latest album Beacons of Ancestorship continues their thread of uncompromising original music and ranks with their acknowledged classic Millions Now Living Will Never Die (1996) as a pinnacle of the genre.
